A Doctor in the first half of the 18th century could be called on to treat all sorts of disorders and complaints, dispensing advice and medicines in exchange for cash.  Whether the problem was livestock tempted astray by witchcraft, romantic disappointment or simply rhuematic fevers, Orton's Dr William Fairer would always have a remedy, with occasional recourse to his Book of Black Art.

Dr Fairer is coming back to life for the Beneath the Beacon exhibition.
